Mr Fab is a hit or miss, but he’s always outspoken and strives to rep Oakland and the Bay Area hard no matter where he’s at in the world. Big up to Aris Jerome on the visuals, I’m digging those steady cam shots.

Roach Gigz – Pop Off (Video)

Chasen Paper, 4 August, 2010

Roach really breaks you off a piece of his mind in this video filmed by Bay Area video director Aris Jerome. “Pop Off” was shot the day the verdict was read for Oscar Grant’s trial in downtown Oakland. It’s release is a timely reminder to the people in the Bay Area and the rest of the country that the murder of our youth by state security apparatus cannot be tolerated, ignored or forgotten. Hella props to Roach Gigz for speaking out and having the forethought to record this video. R.I.P Oscar Grant: February 27, 1986 – January 1, 2009

Below is the open letter from ex officer Mehserle to the public. Try to check your indignation and anger before you read it no matter what side of the decision in this case you stand on. Moving forward there is obviously a huge amount of work needed to be done to help repair and heal the wounds left by this tragedy for which many feel justice was not served. There also does need to be a dialogue on the issues that gave rise to Mehserele’s attitude that caused him to shoot Oscar Grant that night.

This is my opinion take it or leave it. The visceral feelings of rage and sadness felt by the community about the murder of Oscar Grant are understandable. But there was hope for justice that maybe there was light at the end of the tunnel since this was America where lady justice is blind and feels no bias (a historic lie) but hope is an American ethos. That idea though was crushed when a Los Angeles jury which didn’t include one black juror delivered the limp decision of involuntary manslaughter. A heart dropping feeling of helplessness was compounded by the simultaneous media black out of what was a LANDMARK COURT DECISION on police brutality (despite the weak conviction). Why was this HUGE story barely a blip on CNN’s ticker time line? Why did Meshserle think for one second it was ok to taser Oscar Grant, if you buy his “I thought my gun was a TASER” line, especially when he didn’t have proper Taser training? Would Meshserle have thought to TASER a white suspect in the same situation or would he have taken more time to subdue him in a more humane way? Would Meshserle feel the remorse he expresses above if 5 different camera angles didn’t show the execution he committed and FORCE HIM to feel sorrow?
I love a redemption story, but the above mea culpa from Mehserle doesn’t make me feel a thing. His frail apology pales in comparison to the blind agression and larceny he committed against Oscar Grant that fated New Years Eve and that behavior is an indictment of the unspoken carte blanche that police internally feel that allows them to deal heavy handedly with suspects. Mehserle should have been made an example of by the jurors, and he should still be made an example of by Judge Robert Perry come sentencing day on Aug 6th. Anything less than 14 years in prison which is the max he can hand down would be pandering to the police and there has been enough of that. Oscar Grant was not a criminal in this case, but Mehserle is. A badge doesn’t make him the law and it shouldn’t protect him from it.

E-40 “Dem Boys” (Video)

Chasen Paper, 28 June, 2010

Here’s the latest from 40 Water’s “Revenue Retrieving” album.

Lil B commandeers Nas’ “One Mic” on this one. The gravity and notoriety of the the classic Nas track would have most emcees doing their best Nas impressions, with them trying to impress the listener with their ILLEST rap more in competition with the original than making it their own. But you can’t complete with Nas, what you can do and what Lil B has done is capture the vibe and feeling and flipped it in your own unique way. If rap was a coloring book B is the kid that took the whole box of crayons, took all the colors in his fists and used them to draw a picture at the same time.
Here’s ya Bonus Video: Lil B – Suck My D*&* HO BASED MUSIC VIDEO DIRECTED BY LIL B

Los Rakas Dun Dun & Rico have been making dope jams to turf dance to since they were both about 4 inches shorter than they are now. Their name is derived from Panamanian slang “rakataka” which roughly translates to,”hood” in English. With a cult following all over the international map, dope music videos and rhymes kicked in their native spanish and english these cats are something out of the Bay you should def fuck with. Get Up On Magic!

I usually don’t post anything from Lil B. But this right here is too bizarre and provocative to ignore.

It’s Fresh Music Monday (Or Tuesday if you’re in Australia or New Zealand) and you just hit the jackpot! The Jealous Guys are a native Frisco (San Francisco) based group and I’ve been waiting for these cats to be ready to leak some music. Individually known as Biz Y Casa, 19 (pictured on the left) and Ayinde, 20 (pictured on the right) they’ve soaked up all the best in hip hop since their preschool years and they’re more than ready to smash the air waves with their own songs and parables on life, love, and stories of growing up in the Bay. The 4 tracks they’ve chosen to leak today are from their up coming mixtape “One Night Stand” and feature Ayinde on production for half of them. I dig where these cats are coming from and where they’re going. They should be on your watch list for one reason and one reason only THEY’RE ORIGINAL AND TRUE TO THEMSELVES. Which is a purity that is super lost in hip hop. A classic case of GET UP ON MAGIC!
