Waddup, it’s Ro, and on this special edition, we have none other than the mighty rapper/actor/social & political activist Mos Def. You know him from Black Star. You know him from The Italian Job. You know him from the classic, Black on Both Sides. This unique hip hop individual’s latest album should have been called The Eclectic because not many can pull off what he can do. In my humble opinion, he was the first rapper to actually “sing” (well) at his shows, which either turned heads off or turned them onto what he could do as an artist. He’s a natural born actor (he’s been acting since his teens) and the list of films he’s been in is distinguished and speaking of effortlessly being able to pull shit off, I will say Mos is one of those few who know really “what’s up” with style. Paying attention to the smallest detail….the way it should be done, dammit.
The illest of the ILL….this was from a recent photoshoot that Mos did for world-renowned japanese street label, Neighborhood (one of my all time favorite brands, up there with BAPE, I’m talkin’ bout the real heads since 2k.) This biker-inspired brand showcases one-of-a-kind details such shown on the jacket to the left…..see those “studs”? Yeah, those and everything else on the jacket are prints, otherwise known as NHBD’s “virtual efx”. With the right photo-Again, not many decide or can pull off the leopard print hoody with the mis-matched cons (w the gucci laces of course). Insane.
And because of this “found-only-in-Japan dopeness”, I personally still rock Neighborhood most definitely.
I think whenever stuff is just laid out like this in order to obtain a celeb’s look (like in Complex) is cheating…where’s the fun in digging?! Anyway, this was Mos’ fit from the 2010 Grammy Awards.
Dante Smith-Bey def knows what’s up, nuff said.
Anyone of my generation who can appreciate style, can ALWAYS appreciate a fresh pair of Js. Mos makes one of my faves look dope. What’s your favorite(s)?
This is Mos Def’s current look. Unique and original (the shit you never thought of). His hat and shoe game are classic and next level at the same time, if that’s even possible.
Not many can do the blue suit either…I don’t promote smokin ciggies, but he just makes it look so damn cool with the suit and loafers.
Awesome video! Even Mos’ brother clowns him wearin’ the WTaps jacket…only for the few who know how to rock it and can appreciate the details, it’s all about the details kids!
We out like history….for now.

Whatch this in it’s entirety than use it as a reference point of what Hip Hop always did and should represent no matter what form it takes into eternity. Get Up On Magic!

Here’s the trailer for Ski Beats’ 24 Hour Karate School album project we we’re talking about with Stalley last week! The project has been slated for a MARCH 30th release date. I really do have to say that I’m really admiring the quality and quantity of working that is emanating from that little laboratory that Dame built in Manhattan.
