It’s finally here folks! J.Davinci’s breakout album “The Day The Turf Stood Still”. There isn’t a project out of the Bay Area right now that reps the streets in a more dynamic, rugged and introspective light than J.DaVinci. His narratives of block hustling, tragedy and triumph go perfect with his guttural tone and leaning rhyme scheme. We’ve told you about J.Davinci in our 24KMilkcrate TV episodes 1 + 2.  This is not a project to be missed or slept upon. GET UP ON MAGIC!!!

DaVinci’s rocky raspy voice and low key flow is one of my favorites in hip hop right now. I’ve known about DaVinci for years and it’s great to see him finally getting some of the recognition he deserves. The Bay Area needs a face lift when it comes to the perception of it around the country and I’m glad he’s one of the folks doing it big for Frisco. GET UP ON MAGIC!

As the March 9th release date for DaVinci’s debut album, The Day The Turf Stood Still, approaches, the rising Fillmore District emcee is proud to release the video for the lead single from the album for the song, “What You Finna Do.” Shot in black and white and featuring powerful visuals throughout, DaVinci uses the video as a means to drive home the song’s message as he speaks on the powerful and hotly debated topic of gentrification, an issue not only affecting his own neighborhood but urban areas across the country. Speaking on his inspirations for penning the song, DaVinci explains, “I was inspired to write this song to address an open ended question to the neglected inner-city communities world wide.” The video’s chilling depiction follows DaVinci through his home city, or at least the city that used to feel like home
.

Here is more top quality street shit from DaVinci off of “The Day The Turf Stood Still”. The song “Guys Wanna” is as DaVinci puts it “…a dedication to all the ladies who try to keep their man at home too much.” Every dude can empathize with that right there. Production is handled by Al_Jieh and the song is accompanied by a montage which was shot and directed by the homie and super talented Johan Thomas. This is some indescribable smooth shit.

24KMilkCrate.Com TV: J.DaVinci Interview Pt. 1

Chasen Paper, 5 February, 2010

J.Davinci’s interpretation of his brutal surroundings growing up in San Francisco’s Fillmore hasn’t led him down your typical emcees path. While many artists choose to use their harsh environment as a platform to deliver equally harsh and stark rhymes. J.DaVinci’s art is filtred through a desire to understand the broad scope of poverty, drugs, and survival. He’s a sniper though, and he rarely strays off of his mark, whether it’s Benjamins, gurls, slangin’, or gentrification in his neighborhood.  Along with his Thorobred click and SwtBrds Creative Collective backing DaVinci is set to drop his album “The Day The Turf Stood Still” March 9th and it’s already getting the attention it deserves. Check out the illest artist about to drop in the Bay Area and GET UP ON MAGIC!
