Check the fly shit.

This is a good week to be in LA for art openings. This Retna installation at Rivera & Rivera looks massive. Can’t wait to check it out.

LOS ANGELES- RIVERA & RIVERA is pleased to announce a new floor-to-ceiling installation piece by international graffiti artist RETNA. RETNA’s installation which spans a 25 foot high wall and carpets the floor entices and envelops viewers in a black and white web of text.
The installation explores the complex nature of a fluid lexicon derived from a multitude of sources including hieroglyphics and street tagging. RETNA’s original typography is based on the Latin alphabet, and can be decoded and translated to read messages in English or Spanish.
RETNA’s work is featured around the world–his collaborative murals can be seen on the streets of Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Miami, New York, Mexico City, Barcelona and Milan. His most recent exhibitions include showing at Volta Basel in Switzerland, Desaturated at New Image, and the Los Angeles Art Show. This is the final show at RIVERA & RIVERA’s South Park location.
Please look for our new location in the Gallery District of downtown Los Angeles, set to open in the fall.

I’m going to be in LA for this and if you say you’re trilly into ink and you have a spare day even you should be too.

Any self respecting street art lover within 25miles of San Francisco has got to be @ this opening by Reyes. Check out the trailer and tell me I’m lying.

Kaws recently opened an artshow in Connecticut and Highsnobiety was there to cover it in classy fashion.

Artifice-Blu “Big Bang Big Boom”

Chasen Paper, 5 July, 2010

What are you doing right now? Stop it and watch this video created by the artist Blu, not to be confused with the other Blu who is an emcee. Anything that’s dope that goes up on a wall illegally is cool here.

Jon Naar is a photographer that documented the explosive birth of graffiti in NYC over 30 years ago in a book called Faith of Graffiti. Super O.G Snake breaks down some of the photos taken in the book and the writers he remembers. Seeing the dude break down graf from his childhood and knowing where it’s progressed today gives you a wonderful sense of history a feeling for the many artistic semi independent subcultures that connect up to form hip hop. It’s deep.
