All I’ve got to say is early arrival is probably recommended.

Known Gallery’s glossy all white walls and floors truly give you the feeling of viewing art in the clouds, it’s conveys the exact feeling you want a person to have when seeing a show. A peaceful detached place from which to observe the passing picture frames filled with wild color, vice, sexuality, prideful eagles, angels and demons portrayed by tattoo masters Bob Roberts of Spotlight Tattoo (LA) and Bert Krak of Top Shelf/Smith Street Tattoo (NYC).  Unfortunately I missed the packed opening the night before but I did get to peruse the show on the sleepy Sunday the day after which actually works better for me. If you’re in LA make sure you stop by to check out the show, if you’re not at least get acquainted with these ILL tattoo artists and their works.

This is a good week to be in LA for art openings. This Retna installation at Rivera & Rivera looks massive. Can’t wait to check it out.

LOS ANGELES- RIVERA & RIVERA is pleased to announce a new floor-to-ceiling installation piece by international graffiti artist RETNA. RETNA’s installation which spans a 25 foot high wall and carpets the floor entices and envelops viewers in a black and white web of text.
The installation explores the complex nature of a fluid lexicon derived from a multitude of sources including hieroglyphics and street tagging. RETNA’s original typography is based on the Latin alphabet, and can be decoded and translated to read messages in English or Spanish.
RETNA’s work is featured around the world–his collaborative murals can be seen on the streets of Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Miami, New York, Mexico City, Barcelona and Milan. His most recent exhibitions include showing at Volta Basel in Switzerland, Desaturated at New Image, and the Los Angeles Art Show. This is the final show at RIVERA & RIVERA’s South Park location.
Please look for our new location in the Gallery District of downtown Los Angeles, set to open in the fall.

Summer time in Los Angeles is one of the only places to be for everything world class including art. If you’re in L.A tonight for Art Walk stop by Bang Gallery and chill for a spell. It’s a Jarritos party, and I’ve never been to one but for some reason any company that makes technicolor soda seems like they’d be a blast to have as a host.

I’m going to be in LA for this and if you say you’re trilly into ink and you have a spare day even you should be too.

EVENTS-Microphone Fiend JULY 22ND!

The homie Jamal over @ Segue doesn’t stop throwing events. Homie has an uncanny ability to organize and keep things fresh and entertaining and this line up is no different. See you out there!

CaliLOVE: Behind The Photo Shoot from Amanda Martinez on Vimeo.

There are some super dope events going on in S.F Thursday the 18th. One of them is our homie and amazing photographer Amanda Lopez’s gallery opening of her “CaliLove” show. Amanda has been shooting for magazines like Vapors, The Source and XXL for years as well as apprenticing under Los Angeles street photography titan Estevan Oriol. The S.F opening of her exhibit features portraits shot over the course of a few months featuring people adorned in the macabre face paint traditional to the Mexican holiday Dia De Los Muertos. Of course she had to add her own flare to the makeup. The end result is an amazing fusion of culture and visual effect. COME THROUGH AND ENJOY THE SHOW!
